The MAGIC Project aims to generate models of human skeletal pathophysiology to be used in the development of new vectors for gene therapy and genome editing. iMM with MAGIC partners aim to create novel and vigorous skeletal muscle-on-chip models that echo multiple muscle pathologies, with quantitative and reproducible phenotypic readouts at the celular scale. These cellular models will allow phenotypic assessment of cellular pathways and mechanism that are central to the pathophysiology of multiple neuromuscular disorders using high temporal and super resolution microscopy. Furthermore, the extensive expertise of iMM in cellular pathophysiology and centronuclear pathologies will facilitate the comprehensive assessment of excitation-contraction coupling, a pivotal physiological process within skeletal muscle that is often compromised in multiple muscle disorders. In addition, iMM will extend the educational and training opportunities of MAGIC by the implementation of activities within local communities and organizing upskilling workshops to train early career researchers. Finally, iMM will establish Management Staff Exchange focused on European Research and Innovation, to foster knowledge exchange between MAGIC partners and iMM.
